Economic Vitality Committee
Meeting Minutes
November 18, 2022
incident and wondered why it was allowed to continue for so long. He closed his
comments with agreement that the format of this year's event worked well.
Chair Dickinson suggested that the spring event be held in the morning to allow
for additional members of the business community to attend. He wondered
whether a morning event should be structured similarly or have a completely
different format. Councilmember Fahey agreed that it makes sense to alternate
meeting times.
Councilmember Most commented that the layout of the event and all of the
details were really well done. She continued that there was a high level of
professionalism that resonated with the business community and set a standard
for events moving forward. She concluded her comments by commending Chair
Dickinson on his job as the moderator.
Chair Dickinson questioned how a morning event could have a similar
professionalism to the evening event. He added that the morning event should
also have food and beverage vendors on site as it made the event feel more
professional.
Public Comment from Mark Oberholzer: Mr. Oberholzer commented that he
was surprised by the lack of composting and recycling options available at the
event.
Councilmember Fahey closed the discussion by thanking everyone that helped
make the event happen for their work.
7. Discussion/Direction- Sustainability Incentives: Specialist Brown
summarized the previous meeting's discussion around sustainability incentives
that are available to Louisville businesses. He introduced Sustainability
Coordinator Kayla Betzold. Coordinator Betzold gave a brief overview of PACE
and then introduced Elizabeth French with PACE to give a presentation on
incentives available to businesses. Ms. French gave a presentation on available
electrification incentives available for new and existing businesses at the local,
state, and federal levels. PACE's presentation is attached with these minutes.
Chair Dickinson asked whether the incentives require action prior to application
for the rebate. Ms. French responded that PACE does have a pre -approval
process for many of its rebates. Chair Dickinson also asked how tenants who
might receive most of the benefits from these incentives can encourage the
property owners to take advantage of these rebates. Ms. French agreed that
differing motives are an issue, but confirmed that PACE does have outreach
materials that are available to both business owners and property owners.
