Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
October 17, 2022
Brackett Hogstad begins her presentation by mentioning the demolition review
process and showing an aerial image of the property location. She reviews the
historic conditions and displays what the current condition of the property is.
She mentions the demolition criteria and reviews each one.
Criteria 1: The eligibility of the building for designation as an individual landmark
(age, significance, integrity).
• Age: The principal structure was constructed before 1947, making it more
than 75 years old. The structure was likely moved from the Monarch Mine
as early as 1947.
• Significance: This house is associated with Louisville mining history
through miner Tom Milo and through its association with the Monarch
Mine.
• Integrity: This structure adds character and value to Frenchtown and
County Road and represents a common folk architectural style in
Louisville.
Criteria 2: The relationship of the building as a potential contributing structure to
a potential historical district.
• The structure remains it its location and setting as shown in the
1948/1950s Assessor Card notations and image. It was likely moved from
the Monarch Mine, but this historic move does not affect its historic
character. It appears to maintain the footprint and exterior characteristics
from 70+ years ago.
Criteria 3: The reasonable condition of the building.
• Property condition is unknown.
Criteria 4: The reasonable projected cost of restoration or repair.
• Cost estimate is unknown.
The commission may release the permit or place a stay on the application for up
to 180 days from the date of application (September 9, 2022). A full 180-day stay
would expire on March 8, 2023.
Staff Recommendations:
Staff recommends the commission to release the stay on the demolition of the
structure.
Commissioner Questions of Staff. -
None is heard.
Applicant Presentation:
Garrett Mundelein, 555 County Rd
Mundelein has worked in Louisville and restored eight old homes in old town
Louisville. He references properties that were worked on and how they were
restored. He and his wife have lived in this house since September 1997. In the
