Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
February 27, 2023
Brackett Hogstad says there has been no alteration certificate but there has
been a demolition review for 301 Pine St that is released. She gives an example
of subcommittee language.
Burg asks if the regular commission training included subcommittee training as
well.
Brackett Hogstad says when we had the initial orientation, she just let them
know that subcommittee exists. When she sends an email to the subcommittee
with a review, she will give the new commission member additional information.
Dunlap asks if it is possible to get an idea of the resources from the museum
that are archived.
Haley mentions that a subcommittee member can request additional information
from the museum
Brackett Hogstad also mentions that when a subcommittee member receives a
review, what is attached in the email is all the information she found for that
property.
Dunlap says this information should be publicly available.
General Updates / Upcoming Schedule
Brackett Hogstad brings up a City owned building called Joe's Metal Shop. We
have had interest from a property owner to either restore it or move it. She
wanted to keep the commission aware that conversations are happening. For the
March 20 meeting, there are two tentative items. The first being a presentation on
809 Main St, and the second is a quarter one report.
Dunlap says there is a nice sign that looks historic in Waterloo. Does staff know
where that has come from?
Brackett Hogstad says that is something DAJ Design created and put up. The
previous HPC staff member as well as herself have both reviewed and approved
it.
Updates from Commission Members
Downtown Business Association Examples
Dunlap says this was a minor outreach item. They do a monthly newsletter and
historically we have had an item in that about preserved properties.
Haley mentions that the examples could be something easy to put on our social
media platforms.
Adjourn
This meeting adjourns at 7:35 PM.
