Sustainability Advisory Board <br />Minutes <br />March 15, 2023 <br />Page 3 of 10 <br />Michiko Christiansen inquired about the relationship between Republic Services <br />and Al Organics. Kayla clarified that Republic Services is the City's contracted <br />residential waste hauler and that Al Organics is the primary recipient of hauled <br />compost along the Front Range. <br />Megan inquired whether the new composting rules apply to both residential and <br />commercial entities. Kayla replied that the new composting rules apply to all <br />compost sent to Al Organics. <br />Josh inquired about educational opportunities and events regarding backyard <br />composting in light of the new restrictions on curbside composting. Kayla replied <br />that an event is scheduled at the Louisville Public Library in late April. <br />Steve Brauneis volunteered that the City could tap into regional communications <br />regarding the new composting rules since the new composting rules affect much <br />of the Front Range. <br />Michiko volunteered that the City start communicating heavily now about the new <br />composting rules. <br />Discussion Item — Gas Station Moratorium Recommendation <br />Kayla set the stage for the Board's consideration, stating that first Rob Zuccaro <br />would present the draft ordinance and its history, then Josh would present his <br />draft letter of support to City Council, next the Board would take public <br />comments, and finally the Board would deliberate on its desired course of action. <br />Kayla laid out several possible courses of action. <br />Drawing on slides in the meeting packet, Rob provided background on the events <br />leading to the drafting of the ordinance, gave an overview of the ordinance, and <br />discussed the ordinance's review process. He explained that the Planning <br />Commission recommended approval with an additional condition requiring fast <br />EV chargers at new gasoline stations, that the Economic Vitality Committee held <br />a forum for discussion of the ordinance, and that now the Sustainability Advisory <br />Board is reviewing the ordinance. Rob also addressed a question from a Board <br />member about projections for Louisville's population in light of the community's <br />demand for gasoline stations.
