Open Space Advisory Board <br />Information Item 6: Staff Updates Continued <br />June 14, 2023 <br />Page 2 of 3 <br />General: <br />1. Staffing Update: <br />A. Jacob Marinkovich has accepted the position of Open Space Maintenance <br />Technician III and started with the City on June 5, 2023. <br />B. Kayla Corcelli has accepted the position of Parks and Open Space Administrative <br />Assistant and started on June 5, 2023. <br />C. The Senior Natural Resource position has been posted with an application closing <br />date in June. <br />Trails & Maintenance: <br />1. The 104' St Trail is in the final phases of the project. The safety railing was installed on <br />May 16t" 2023 on the south end of Dillon Road. The cross -walk striping was completed on <br />May 17t" 2023. <br />2. Hecla memorial bench is in the planning phase and will be completed once new seasonal <br />and fulltime staff are able to support the project. <br />3. Coyote Run Trail Resurfacing Project staging areas have been identified and contractor is <br />scheduled to start in late June. Phased closures will be put in place with convenient <br />detours to try to leave as much trail open as possible. <br />Natural Resources: <br />1. Staff is testing out a new prairie dog mitigation method by installing solar -powered rodent <br />repellers on Warembourg Open Space in attempt to keep prairie dogs from establishing <br />on the property. Staff has tried multiple passive mitigation efforts to prevent colony <br />expansion from the private land to the south which have proven ineffective. <br />2. Herbicide applications on select Open Space properties occurred May 16 through May 19. <br />Additional days will be scheduled for treatments in late June. <br />3. The Bridge House Working Group will be assisting the Open Space team install a prairie <br />dog barrier on Davidson Mesa on June 12-23. <br />Resource Protection: <br />1. Rangers attended the annual Ranger Excellence School (RES) in Estes Park May 15-19. <br />Training topics included Spanish language, bicycle patrol techniques, emergency medical <br />management, mental health resilience for first responders, and working with mental <br />health co -responders, among others. <br />Education/Volunteer: <br />1. The Daily Camera wrote a story on the Bird Walk on Open Space program, led by Open <br />Space volunteer Linda Lee on Hecla Lake Open Space. <br />16 <br />
