Informational Item: Staff Update provided by Ember Brignull, Open Space
Superintendent and Adam Blackmore, Director of Parks, Recreation, and Open Space.
Ember pointed out a few highlights from the staff updates in the May meeting packet.
She has generally heard positive feedback from citizens about the cattle currently grazing
on Davidson Mesa. She related some of the lessons they have learned from the program
already. The last day for cattle grazing is May 18t". The herbicide contracts will begin
shortly thereafter. There will be 700 goats on North Open Space for 8 days in late May.
The plan is to have lots of goats but only for a short period of time. Ember pointed out
that the goal for cattle and for the goats are slightly different. The goal of the cattle on
Davidson Mesa is about long-term habitat restoration and fuel mitigation. The goal for
the goats on North Open Space is currently more about fuels reduction.
