Open Space Advisory Board
Minutes
May 10, 2023
there would be a final evaluation of these grazing efforts. Ember said that both
contractors would report to OSAB in the fall.
Susan asked if there were any updates on Redtail Ridge. Ember said staff has received
recent revisions to the Redtail Ridge plans, but to Ember's view they are very similar to
the previous plans for vegetation and trails on the dedicated Open Space that OSAB has
seen before.
Adam announced that the Task Force for the Open Space and Parks sales tax will meet on
Monday at the Rec Center at 6:00 p.m. to discuss the results from recent citizen polling.
The agenda for this meeting will be posted by Friday. This is a public meeting, so the public
can attend it.
David asked for updates on the Coal Creek Trail and the Dillon Rd. area trails. Adam said
that there were no new updates.
David asked about the prairie dog management plans in the packet. Ember said that they
make management decisions based on the City's prairie dog management plan. They are
hoping to relocate Davidson Mesa prairie dogs to the Black Footed Ferret recovery
location. They are also looking to relocate prairie dogs who have made burrows on trails.
In some areas PERC is being recommended adjacent to trails. She added that Davidson
Mesa is the one City open space property that seems to have experienced a prairie dog
population boom after the Marshal Fire.
Helen asked for an update on the wayfinding project. Ember explained that the design
contractor is still working on the final edits of the design specifications and map template.
6. Board Updates
Susan noted that the Bee City USA committee has lots of plans, but they are all in
preliminary stages.
Susan noted that PPLAB has prioritized planning for the Cottonwood Master Plan, and she
wasn't sure whether a dog park would be part of it. Adam thought that PPLAB would first
evaluate whether further dog facilities were needed before deciding if they wanted to
include one at Cottonwood Park. They are considering other city -owned land for a dog
park siting, as well. Helen pointed out that while PPLAB considers usage, they should
include users using open space for unauthorized dog off -leash. Adam agreed and thought
there are lots of people using parklands this way.
National Trails Day will be June 101h, at Harper Lake from 9:00 a.m. — 1:00 p.m.
David noted that the 1041h Street Trail has been recently re -aligned nicely around curves.
0
