The house at 1045 Front became the home of their daughter, Rose (also called Rosa and Rosie) Scarano (1872-1928), whose husband was Michael LaSalle (1867-1945). They had married in Italy in about 1888. There is no direct evidence of who was occupying the house at 1045 Front at the time of the 1900 census, but the 1904 directory for Louisville shows that Michael and Rose LaSalle were living in the Caledonia Place Addition where 1045 Front is located, and as mentioned, they were also living in this vicinity at the time of the 1900 census. There is the possibility that the family rented the house before Rose LaSalle's parents' purchased it, or that there was a rent -to -buy arrangement. The 1910 census shows Rose and Michael LaSalle and their family to be living on Front St. in the correct approximate location for it to be 1045 Front, judging by the presence of neighbors also listed on the census as living near them. The family at that time consisted of them and their children Toney, William, Pasquale, Louis, Adeline, and John. Michael worked as a coal miner. The following photo is believed to show 1045 Front in the background on the left. The photographer wrote "Jacovetta's" on the photo. Research and evidence suggest that the view in this photo is looking north and that it shows the front yard of the Pasquale and Christina Jacovetta home at 1025 Front St. On the right side of the photo, railroad tracks are seen parallel to the street. The next house to the north, seen on the left side of the photo, would be 1033 Front, with 1045 Front visible just beyond. The 1910 census records contain additional confirming information that show where these families lived along this block of Front St. Pasquale Jacovetta's youngest child, a daughter named Thelma, was born in June 1916. She is believed to be the young child in the photo. He sold the house in November 1917. The photo is believed to have been taken in 1917. In 1917, William and Cogetta Scarano officially deeded the property at 1045 Front to their daughter, Rose. Rose and her family continued to live in the house. The 1920 census records show that Michael still worked as a coal miner, and also living with them were their children Frank, Adeline, John, and Victor. 3
