Senior Advisory Board
Meeting Minutes
5/19/09

2. Sunshine-Barbara Wilson.
No report.
3. Garden Club-Carol Purfurst. See Physical and Mental Health.

3. Intergenerational-Claire Floyd
The school year at Fireside has ended and we will resume in the Fall. Three
volunteers attended the tea for volunteers at Fireside. Claudine noted that she
had posted the Daily Camera article about the volunteers, which specifically
highlighted the seniors.

C. Physical and Mental Health-Carol Purfurst.
Carol handed out a package and referred to the group's goal, given at the end of
the package. The Square Dance night, with a professional caller, was well
received. We are still playing wii on Fridays. The Bloomin' Seniors garden club
is going strong. We will be planting containers on May 27. We have a plot at the
community garden and people are committed to it. We are going to plant bulbs
outside the Senior Center. There is a dedicated core of participants. The group
leader, Richard Cohen, is doing a great job.

Touch a Truck Bake Sale Update
Last year, we made enough money to buy tee shirts for senior volunteers. This
year, no one is willing to head the group, so we will not participate. Plus, Panera
Bread is donating baked good (bagels, muffins, etc.) at the event.

Discussion items for the next meeting
Rosalie asked what we are expected to do for the Council's July 14 study
session. Connie reminded all focus group leaders to prepare their reports, which
should include the group's goals for 2009 and Claudine asked us to give them to
her by the end of June. Connie will talk about the awards the seniors have won
this year. Rosalie asked what happens at the annual Ice Cream Social.
Claudine explained that Louisville Senior Services invites seniors to this event, at
which volunteers are recognized. The city has added funds for volunteer
appreciation back into their budget this year. Larry requested that $500 be spent
for this.

Claudine reminded that at the July meeting we need to talk about who we want to
start recruiting for next year's Board. Claudine will do an update on the
Foundation. The Senior Foundation is meeting in June to create a Board
Development Committee.

Adjourn-Carol moved and Larry seconded, and it was unanimously voted that
the meeting be adjourned. The meeting was adjourned at 2:36 pm.

Next meeting: Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at 1 :00 pm.
