COLO. TECH. CENTER
CONT'D

with that, we have concluded that there are
no economic resources as defined under
HB 1041, HB 1545 or HB 1529, which would in
any way influence the zoning or the develop-
ment of this area. The problems and engi-
neering geology resources we see no prob-
lem with at this time. I might ask, do you
have any questions about this map before I
take it down.

COUNCILMAN DEL PIZZO

Dr. Robinson, are those little squares the
underminings on the property?

DR. ROBINSON

On this map, these are the major workings.
We just generalized them on this particular
map in order to be able to describe the coal
resources. I think on the other map we
have concluded a very detailed line map that
show specific colors.

(A new map was put up for review.)

This is what we define as our subsidence
potential map.
As most of you know, we have for the last
ten years been studying the problems of
subsidence in the Louisville area. I think
now we have probably drilled more holes into
the abandoned mines in the Louisville-
Lafayette area than any other firm, and have
gained a certain amount of experience in
evaluating what we find. I would like to
review briefly, how we go about this so you
will understand what the basis for our con-
clusions are. vfuen someone approaches us,
we insist to make a study as to what the
potential subsidence is. We insist first
that we have a good map. We have here a
topographic map with the accuracy to the
standards of what we call the US map standard
accuracies. This is a standard which has been
agreed upon by the Federal and other state
governments. It is the basis for standard
mapping. We requested that such a map was
prepared and as you will see, it is shaded
here in the background, but it is a topo-
graphic map. Now this is made from aerial
photography, and in this case based on ex-
perience, we found that if you get a special
type of photography, you can see much better
detail on the ground. Now, on this par-
ticular project we requested that there be
low light angle infra red target. The low
light angle (this is getting a little tech-
nical maybe) allows you to see the very
small changes in relief. Otherwise, if there

is just a small rise in the land adjacent to

-6-
