WATER TANK ALTERNATIVES CONT'D (1) Preliminary analysis indicated size
required would be in the range of 2.5MG
to 3MG, the 3 million gallon tank was
chosen.
(~) Location had to fit in with 2 major
constraints - one was the existing treat-
ment plant so that it would operate
at a higher capacity, ultimately 5MG per
day - secondly, the City's system itself
so that the tank would not be built in a
hole and not be able to discharge by gravity
into the City's water system.
(3) Field Services - an update of the
piping in the water treatment plant itself,
and the findings and location of existing
water mains serving the City. Those lines
installed many years ago were not mapped
and had to be physically located. We
surveyed existing City property and property
to be required. Had a soils and founda-
tion investigation done. The findings
indicated the hydraulics of the plant
to operate at 5MG per day required the
top of the water of the tank to be at
least 14' below the top of the water
in the filter beds. Minimum amount of
water in the tank to be at an elevation
of 5535' USGS datum to get water into
the city through the existing water facil-
ities. A tank was designed having an in-
side diameter of 146' and 24' depth of
water.
(4) Design - steel, concrete cast and
place facility with twin T roof, prestress
concrete. We have designed all these with
the exception of pre-stress concrete which
will be put out under performance speci-
fications, allowing more people to bid
on the facility. Foundation for all alter-
nates will be structural slab on drilled
piers.
(5) Special use review - we submitted to
Boulder County a proposal summary and
development report on April 7, 1976 and
it will come before the Commissioners on
June 16, 1976. We will meet with Boulder
County staff May 12, 1976. The only com-

- 6 -
