M. EMPLOYER RESPONSES
PROFILE OF EMPLOYERS
All employers were first asked a series of questions about the demographics of their
full-time work force. In these, and in other employer answers, the responses have been
rounded off to the nearest percent. No firm is specifically identified. All employee
responses, from wherever derived, remain anonymous.
A total of 24 employers were polled, accounting for a work force of 1407. Of the 24
employers reporting, a total of 72% of their Louisville resident employees earn less than
$34,400, the maximum income allowed for a three -person household to apply for any housing
assistance.
The employers, in reporting the income range of their workers, do no show any ideal
bell -shaped curve. Instead, there is a large group of employees at the lower end of the
income spectrum, and an almost equally large group at the upper end. About one-third of the
employees earn less than $20,000 per year, while about one-fourth make in excess of $35,000
annually. The number of mid -range earners is relatively small.
TABLE I
Total number of full time employees: 1407
Number of full time employees residing in Louisville: 300
Profile of full time employees who are Louisville oesidents: Percentage
What percent earn less than $34,400 per year 72%
Less than 14,999 9%
$15,000-$19,999 24%
$20,000-$24,999 18%
$25,000-$29,999 15%
$30,000-$34,999 10%
$35,000-$39,999 6%
$40,000 and above 19%
3
