HB 1041 - MATTERS OF STATE
INTEREST cont'd

Mr. Wur1 stated taht the Colorado Geological
Survey (CGS) was to have available in May
data that would tell what could be built on
different categories of severity. He stated
that the City has not received them yet.
Mr. Wur1 stated that he thought a more posi-
tive study was to be done on the area.

Mr. Dave Shelton stated that there were no
state standards at this time for construction
On areas with possible subsidence. He stated
that at this time it was up to the private
consultant to approach the problem in a way
he feels adequate and then the state would
work with him to review and give the local
governments a realistic idea as to whether it
is adequate. He stated that on costs, studies
such as Sproul were held. He stated that it
is difficult to prove without doubt that
subsidence will not occur.
Mr. Wur1 asked Mr. Shelton if the state accepted
Robinsons' report on Sproul.
Mr. Shelton stated there were a few reservations
on it but in general it was accepted.
Mr. Shelton stated that they have had meetings
to try to establish more detailed suggestions
as to subsidence and construction requirements.

Councilwoman Dhieux asked it is was feasible
to spend excessive amounts of money to
drill holes when there were people in the
City who worked the mines and could give de-
tailed reports on them.
Mr. Shelton stated that locating the mine is
just the beginning and that the big question
is whether or not subsidence will occur.
Councilman Domenico stated that he thought
after the closing of the mine it is shored up.
Mr. Shelton stated that after it is closed there
is a possibility of rotting and collapse.
Councilman Domenico stated that if the state
and county are so interested in the drilling
tests they should foot the expense to have
them done.
Mr. Billington, a nearby resident, stated that
he was unaware of any subsidence near Louisville.

Councilman DelPizzo stated that he could not
recall any great subsidence in or near
Louisville.

Mr. Marc DeMarco stated that he was a geologist
and property owner in Louisville. Mr. DeMarco
asked Mr. Shelton why the state classified a
portion of his property as being a subsidence
hazard when there is no mine there and the
state has not corrected their mistake in
designating this area as hazardous.

2.
