ADJOURNED MEETING

COHMENTS FROM PERSONS
IN THE AUDIENCE

CENTRAL BUSINESS
DISTRICT

BUDGET - 1974

LOUISVILLE CITY COUNCIL

OCTOBER 23,1973

Mr. Joe Ferrase inquired if the Louisville Urban
Rene~l7al offices were being moved to the Community
Building, and if they were paying rent. Mayor
pro-tern King reported affirmative to both questions,
and that the Parks and Recreation Department
collected all rents from the building. Mr. Ferrase
also inquired if there would be any problems with
the recreation activities when the offices were
moved. Mayor pro-tern King advised there would be
no adverse effects upon the use of the building.
Attorney Morris stated he was under the opinion
LURA was to improve the building in lieu of paying
rent., and that a floor plan of the renovation
coul~l be obtained from Parks and Recreation
Chairman Keith Helart.

There seemed to be a misunderstanding about the
Central Business District and plans to be carried
out by LURA. Mayor pro-tem King explained to
Mr. Gene DiCarlo that the CBD was definitely
a long range plan undertaken by City Council.
Hr. DiCarlo inquired about the proposed parking
lots from LaFarge and Front and Pine to South Streets.
Mayor pro-tern King explained the entire intent of
of the proposed plan is to preserve the downtown
area, because if the area becomes decrepit the
entire community around it will do that. The main
concern of the people in the audience was if
property would be condemned to make way for the
parking lot. Mayor pro-tem King assured them
there was no intent to condemn any property.

Mayor pro-tern King stated that since this was
the public hearing on the Budget, it would be
best-the)' discuss it page by page. City Adminis-
trator Wurl then explained that through an error
on his part in calculations three figures were
missed that were duplications in expenditures
and some items that had been cut could now be
replaced.
Candidate Barbara McDonald questioned the increase
in the Police Department budget - stating it had
doubled from 1973. City Administrator Wurl re-
ported two additional patrolmen would be added,
one to be hired in July and a full time Code
Enforcement Officer.

Page - 2 -
