City Council
Study Session Summary
July 14, 2009
Completing the EIS is critical in receiving funding. Approximately $1.5 billion
dollars is available under stimulus funding for TIGER grants, and the selection
process is highly competitive. Applications are due on September 15, 2009 and
projects will be selected by January 15, 2010. Safety, innovation, and
sustainability are a few of the criteria considered in the selection process.
Discussion with other agencies is on-going, and partnerships are being
developed to pursue funding to complete 36 improvements. 36 Commuting
Solutions is working closely with Councils and Staff in the local communities
addressing corridor-wide impacts and solutions. 36 Commuting Solutions is
currently focusing on a branded campaign, tag-line (Pioneering Sustainable
Travel Options), and being pro-active.
36 Commuting Solutions requested help from the City of Louisville through
engaging residents, education, constituent communication, identifying
transportation leaders, and expanding the coalition.
Councilors discussed the TIGER application and facilitating pubic and private
partnerships through letters to companies such as ConocoPhillips, Ball, IBM, and
University of Colorado Boulder.
Public Comments
Member of the public asked about the completion date for the work funded by the
TIGER grant. The expected completion date for projects is February 2012. A
concern was raised regarding competing with the FasTracks for funds.
Councilors and staff explained that FasTracks and the US 36 Corridor are two
separate projects that do not compete for the TIGER grant. Another concern
th
was raised regarding the 88 Interchange. ConocoPhillips will be presenting
information addressing the possible impact on the local communities. Avista
Hospital has shown interest in the plan as the ConocoPhillips campus will
provide more visibility and accessibility.
City Manager Items and Future Agenda Items
Advance Agenda – September 22, 2009 Update of RTD, Revenue Projections,
and Historic Preservation Commission Update
Meeting adjourned at 7:48 p.m. – Next Meeting September 22, 2009
Submitted by Rhonda Welborn
