Subcommittee
members Stewart and Williams toured the site on June 25 and determined that the home
may be eligible for locallandmarking. The building appears to have been constructed in
a series of additions around the original 10' X 12' mining structure, and might be able to
be used as a design element for future construction.

The home is in a style particularly associated with Louisville and represents the built
environment of the coal miners, so it may be culturally significant to Louisville. A stay
was placed on the demolition permit request and a public hearing was scheduled for July
20.

Per Ordinance No. 1463, Series 2005 the following public notice was given:
. The public hearing was advertised in the Daily Camera on July 4th, 2009;
. A public hearing notice was posted on the property on July 6th, 2009;
. The applicant received notice via both regular and certified mail, sent on July 3rd,
2009.

STAFF COMMENTS:

This house was very likely constructed in the period of 1893 and 1894. Assessor's
records state the home was built in 1894. The 1909 Drumm's Wall Map of Louisville at
the Museum shows a building in that location at that address. It appears this is the oldest
building on Lincoln Avenue.

The Acme Place Subdivision was originally platted in 1888. John Connel, the original
developer of Acme Place Subdivision, was an agent for the United Pacific Railroad
Company, and was also believed to be involved in the establishment of the Acme Mine.

There were numerous owners of the home between 1894 and 1940; most of these
residents held jobs typical to small towns at the time including working at local
mercantile stores, a miner, and a railroad worker. Christopher Hutchinson, the first
owner, was a miner and immigrant from England.
