-DRAFT-

The metered usage may be further broken down by customer type; residential,
multifamily, commercial/industrial/retail, city, and irrigation taps. The following chart
shows the average percentage of metered usage by customer type (1998-2006).

AVERAGE WATER USAGE BY CUSTOMER TYPE
(1998-2006)

IRRG CITY
7% 5%

COM
22%

AVERAGE ANNUAL USAGE (1000 gals) = 1,133,328

An analysis of the available metered usage data of each customer type prior and
post the 2002 drought (excluding 2002 data) shows a significant reduction in usage.
The Irrigation customer type shows a 15% reduction between the averages of the 4
years after 2002 as compared to the average of the 4 years prior to 2002. For the
same period single family metered usage has shown a 17% reduction and multi-
family metered usage has shown a 12% reduction. While over the same period in-
city commercial metered usage has shown a 16% decrease. City metered usage
has shown a 36% reduction between the averages of the 5 years post verse pre
2002. The significant reduction in City usage highlights efficiencies gained from
improved irrigation practices, utilization of reuse, and plumbing retrofits at City
facilities.

A comparison of all residential usage (Single Family Residential and Multifamily)
divided by estimated population (Census est.) shows a 17% reduction in usage
comparing the four years pre and post 2002. This corresponds well with the meter
analysis above, thus the assumptions on the number of persons per residential tap
(2.6) is reasonable. ('98-'01 residential average = 119.3 gpcd. '03-'06 residential
average = 98.8gpcd)

In 2007 the City changed its Customer Information System and the availability of
usage data in manageable formats for analysis became problematic. This issue is
slowly being worked through and once the data is available such analysis of
customer types will be updated. Until then the trends in usage will be on a citywide
demand basis.

8

City of Louisville

Water Conservation Plan
