Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
July 20, 2009

thth
Stewart recommended the week of August 24 or 26. Stewart then asked staff
how the HPC representatives should prepare for the meeting.
McCartney recommended they review both documents and establish what
elements need to be revised.
Stewart asked if this would be the time to recommend residential design
standards.
McCartney agreed.
Whiteman stated an historic district would create the need for design review.
Williams asked if it would be beneficial for the Commission to review the
documents and bring thoughts back to the August 17, 2009 meeting.
Whiteman agreed.
Committee Reports

Mine Marker
Muckle stated she is continuing research for photos and language for the
markers. Muckle was able to find a listing of all the miners who have died in
mining incidents. Muckle recommended there could be a specific monument to
those miners who have lost there lives in mining accidents.
Community Outreach
McCartney stated his understanding there won’t be a Fall Community Update
newsletter because of the budget.
The Commission then discussed the ongoing option to have a float in the Labor
Day parade.
Old Town Historic District
Stewart and Williams are working on the maps and Muckle agreed to provide
data for the districts.
Hecla Casino
Lewis noted that there are 3 possibilities for the Casino relocation:

Julie Boyd to purchase and relocate onto her lot on Johnson Street.

Carol, at the Homestead Museum in Erie, would like to have the structure
moved to the museum property.

American Legion Post (Legion), here in Louisville, is interested in having it
moved to the legion property on East Street. The Legion would use it as
additional meeting space.
Lewis stated if the Legion moved it; the Commission might be able to use this as
a test project for incentives funding.
Whiteman asked Lewis if she knew what type of support the Legion was looking
from the HPC.
Lewis stated the Legion was just seeking guidance at this point.
Koertje mentioned the State Historical Fund provides guidance for non-profit
businesses seeking guidance in historic preservation.
