Sisk stated that the Boulder Valley School Board has been conducting meetings throughout the district to determine what bond issue to propose to the voters later this year. One of the discussions involved the Monarch K-8 school. He: feels that changing Monarch to a middle school will have a dramatic affect on the entirety of Louisville, i.e. by changing boundary lines and causing overcrowding in the elementary schools and at Louisville Middle School. While he is not opposed to a bond issue, he is opposed to conve:rting Monarch K-8 to a middle school. He urged Council to pass a resolution requesting the Boulde:r Valley School Board maintain Monarch at its present status. Davidson requested that Sisk read the proposed resolution in its entirety. Sisk read the proposed resolution aloud and moved that Council approve Resolution No. 40, Series 1998 - A Resolution Requesting the Boulder Valley Board of Education to Maintain Monarch at its Present Status as a K-8 School, seconded by Mayer. Davidson called for Council comments or questions. Mayer congratulated Sisk for bringing this resolution forward to Council. He stated that he feels Louisville is being punished for their n:sponsible efforts to slow growth and for requiring developers to phase their projects specifically to reduce the impact on the school system. He stated that the school board is also considering a K-5 school for Superior, versus a K-8, as it would be less expensive to build. He agreed that it would be less expensive; however, he pointed out that a K-8 would accommodate more students. He expressed concern that, given Louisville's boundaries, in order to accommodate all the elementary school students with three schools the enrollments would b~ at an unacceptable level of 600-700 students per school. Lathrop agreed with Mayer. Davidson called for approval of the motion. All in favor.
