Sisk replied he believes it is a staffing issue and felt that adding some square footage to <br />the Recreation Center would be beneficial to all concerned. <br />Mayer asked Simmons for the status on his request for an evaluation on the capital <br />construction costs for a Recreation Center expansion and the feasibility study. <br />Simmons replied that they are currently looking at the needs of the Police Department, <br />which currently has an equal if not greater need than the Recreation Center. The budget <br />limits the scope to City Hall. He suggested that staff perform some informal work to <br />determine space needs, versus hiring professional assistance. <br />Mayer stated that this was something that was promised during the budget discussions <br />last year and he was surprised that it is not going to be done. He stated that some <br />residents of the Recreation Center have suggested modifications that could provide <br />additional uses. <br />REGULAR BUSINESS <br />PRESENTATION RECOGNITION OF SERVICE AWARD TO RUSSELL VAN <br />NOSTRAND <br />Davidson thanked Mr. Russell Van Nostrand for his many years of service and presented <br />him with a proclamation declaring Russell Van Nostrand a Distinguished Citizen of the <br />City of Louisville. <br />AWARD OF BID FOR SPORTS COMPLEX PLAYGROUND TO CHURCHICH <br />RECREATION EQUIPMENT <br />Davidson called for staff presentation. <br />Steve Baysinger, Parks Recreation Director, explained that the playground was put out <br />for bids and did receive a bid under the $30,000 projection. In doing so, they also <br />received several add alternates which included a netting on the perimeter of the <br />playground and a cover on the top of the playground to provide shade and protection. If <br />those alternates are included, there would be an approximate budget overage of $7,000. <br />He stated that he presented three options to the Finance Committee, which were: <br />1. Reduce the lay structure; <br />2. Eliminate the protective netting and shade structure; or <br />3. Provide additional funds for the project. <br />Staff recommends obtaining the additional funds from. the Conservation Trust Lottery <br />Funds. <br />5 <br />
