Open Space Advisory Board
Minutes
April 8, 2009
would be good to review other templates for a resolution. Joe agreed to
provide a draft resolution at a future meeting.
2. Truman suggested that we have the following components in the
resolution:
3. Solicitation of public input
4. Collection of input
5. Selection of most popular ideas by Board
6. Submit to City Council for approval
Coyote Management Plan
1. Ember mentioned that human safety is our concern, not pet safety.
Ember said that human feeding (intentional and unintentional) of coyotes
is the primary danger associated w/ coyote problems.
2. Larry moved to endorse the Coyote Management Plan and Spencer
seconded. The board’s endorsement was approved unanimously.
3. Ember reviewed some of her recent changes to the Plan.
4. Linda suggested that the 15’ leash maximum is too long. Ember
mentioned that the leash max is part of municipal code and changes
would have to go through the code change process.
5. Ember said that the fine for feeding coyotes is perhaps $25 or $50 in the
municipal code. Spencer said that perhaps we should raise the fine to
make it a larger impact. Then he suggested that we should consider
raising the fine only after the Plan has been adopted and a series of
education events have been conducted.
6. Ember said that a hazing meeting is being conducted in Denver
Alternative Energy
1. Justin said that in August 08 the city had conducted a public survey where
there was overwhelming support for using open space for locating
alternative energy solutions. Justin asked if the Board would support
green technologies on open space.
2. Spencer, Truman, Ember and Aaron suggested that this is a good topic for
future consideration and discussion.
Open Space Website
1. Ember demonstrated the new website.
2. Ember said the coyote and prairie dog information would be added soon.
Off-Leash Survey Update
1. Spencer said that he has no new information
2. Spencer will call Tom to move the process forward
Discussion Items for Next Meeting
1. Superior meeting
