The air conditioner problem for a resident has been taken care of and fixed the day after the
meeting.

ARRA Funding Update:

Weatherization Program Outreach
Flyers regarding marketing the free weatherization services available through the ARRA act
were distributed to the board. A discussion was held regarding the growth of this program and
its effectiveness, and a request was made to encourage others to help market this program, to
help get the stimulus money out to the community where it is needed. Flyers were distributed to
share with anyone who could use the service.

Housing Crisis Funds Program Update
BCHA won the National Association of Counties (NACO) award for the Housing Crisis
Prevention program. This is national recognition program where all counties receive a brief of
our program which is designed to allow them to replicate the program. We have received a lot of
requests for information. BCHA has submitted a Letter of Interest to administer $1.5 million of
homeless prevention and rapid re-housing program (HPRP) dollars with the Colorado Coalition
for the Homeless. The homeless dollars will be matched to our HCPP funding. HPRP is a
program for homeless prevention and rapid re-housing situations either underway or needing to
be fixed. Applicants do not have to be TANF eligible for these dollars. Colorado Coalition for
the Homeless will be the designated administrator for the HPRP and BCHA would be a
subgrantee for the funds.

Senior Housing
Selena Jaramillo gave recognition to Frank and the Housing Authority for having such lovely
places for seniors to live. The suggestion was made that that perhaps the city council should be
invited to do a tour of these locations and let them know that we are not asking for money, we
are asking for land. The city has land that could be used for housing seniors. We need perhaps 3
to 5 acres to do another Lydia Morgan.

Foreclosure Prevention Program
BCHA has worked with Foreclosure Prevention program, tripling the staff. We took over the
financial management classes. There were about 6 attendees per month previously, now we have
400 per month attending the classes. There has been a huge increase in the number of people
coming in for help with the eviction process or foreclosure process, and we acquired short-term
emergency dollars to help stabilize families.

st
Since April 1 of last year, we have helped 450 families avoid foreclosure and eviction. With
our statewide coalition partners we have been able to apply for $1.5 million for a 3-year program
for case management and housing programs.
