15. Moving forward on providing a portion of energy needs from renewable
sources.
16. Energy efficient replacements of electrical motors

Parks and Recreation Department

1. Reclaimed waste water is used part of the year to irrigate Miner's Field, the Sports
Complex, Community Park, and the Golf Course. Expanded use of reclaimed
waste water is being explored but new infrastructure may be cost prohibitive.
2. The Golf Course installed a new pump with high efficiency motors for their irrigation
that uses less electricity and qualifies for energy credits.
3. Automatic light sensors are in use at the skate rink and tennis courts at the Rec.
Center.
4. Old vehicles are replaced with more efficient models.
5. Parks and Open Space recycle branches for use as mulch throughout the City.
6. Whenever possible, Parks and Recreation try to find locations to recycle hard-to-
recycle items, e.g. plastic from playground equipment, scrap metal. The Golf
Course recycles plastic, metal, motor oil, and cooking oil.
7. Cover Rec Center pool nightly
8. Biosolids are used for composting in annual beds.
9. The irrigation system for Parks is run on a central control with a weather station
which conserves water.
10. Recycle bins are located in offices, break rooms, Senior area, Golf Course,
and also made available for special events, e.g. swim meets

Public Works-Enaineerina

1. Partner with Boulder County Roofs to Roads Program that implements the use of
recycled asphalt shingles into asphalt mixes for paving projects.
2. Explore alternative methods for concrete repair versus full replacement. These
methods would include grinding, shaving, cutting, and the use of high strength
grouts and mortars for minor repairs.
3. Revisit the use of fly ash and slag in our concrete mix designs.
4. Continue to explore opportunities to reuse materials for various projects. For
example, washed rock that was removed from the roof of the recreation center this
past year was put to use in the trenches of our Tyler Ave. subsurface drainage
project.
5. Possibly implement the use of rubberized pavements that use crumb rubber from
recycled tires on some of our paving projects.
