<br />14. We steal each other's pens thus reducing the number of office supplies we <br />need to purchase <br />15. We often pick up freebie pens and paper from outside meetings again to <br />reduce the number of office supplies we purchase.. ..really! <br /> <br />Library <br /> <br />1. We loan books "one book, many owners". <br />2. The library has hundreds of e-resources that can be accessed electronically. <br />3. Library recycles all discarded material that cannot be sold or given away. <br />4. Techno Trash. Recycling of media cases, CDs, DVDs, laptops, etc. <br />5. Staff very knowledgeable and eager to recycle/compost in break room. <br />6. Repurpose RFID tags on express magazines. <br />7. Recycle printer/copier ink cartridges and purchase replacement cartridges for ink <br />pens rather than continually throwing away and purchasing entire ink pens. <br />8. Growing collection of material on sustainability, including a small collection donated <br />by Transition Louisville. <br />9. Host "green" events. The last two volunteer luncheons were completely "green" <br />(compostable table ware and gave away reusable grocery bags). <br />10. Energy Star compliant roof (painted white to reflect heat). <br /> <br />Facilities and Operations <br /> <br />1. Building Automation Systems - Monitor and control HV AC and lighting systems for <br />energy efficiency and conservation <br />2. Use of setback thermostats to reduce and conserve energy use <br />3. Lighting retrofits to more energy efficient lighting <br />4. Green Seal certified cleaning products <br />5. Single stream and compostable recycling throughout City facilities, minimize <br />amount of waste sent to landfill <br />6. Metal recycling <br />7. Oil recycling <br />8. Track and report energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions. <br />9. Use of alternate fuels for vehicles - bio-fuel <br />10. Installation of water saving fixtures <br />11 . Use of compostable materials for food service <br />12. Procurement of energy efficient and low emissions vehicles (Honda hybrid) <br />13. Employees bike to work <br />14. Total cost analysis for bid award includes sustainability component (energy <br />efficiency and life cycle costs) <br />
