<br />BRaD <br />Meeting Summary <br />February 1, 2010 <br />Page 2 of 3 <br />Committee members and staff discussed the role of BRaD as an advisory <br />committee to the Council. BRaD is not an economic council similar to the Board <br />Metro District <br /> <br />Power and Bandwidth Issues <br />Committee members discussed the current and future issues of power available <br />in the City. In December, members from the State OEDIT, Metro Denver EDC, <br />Xcel, Microsoft, and City representatives all met to address the lack of sufficient <br />power for future build-out and certain companies that require a large quantity of <br />power. This will become a problem in the immediate future. Bandwidth as well <br />needs to be considered along with power issues for future development <br />Committee members discussed possible broad based support for alternative <br />energy, such as a Photo Voltaic farm. The City should consider it an appropriate <br />role when becoming involved in alternative energy will put us at a competitive <br />advantage. Photo Voltaic Farms may be possible through third party lease <br />purchase options. <br /> <br />Motion - Carried - Action: BRaD committee members recommended that staff <br />take action to coordinate presentations by Xcel and Internet Bandwidth <br />Companies regarding energy and future plans. <br /> <br />2010 BRaD Goals <br />B. Star discussed the 2010 goals that were included in the packet and requested <br />affirmation of those goals. In addition to BRaD goals, the Economic <br />Development Director meets the goals set by the City Manager's Office and <br />Council. <br /> <br />The City Manager asked if the Committee believed the goals and responsibilities <br />in Resolution 7, Series 2007 were still valid, or are there any changes to be <br />made. All committee members agreed that the Resolution is still relevant and <br />applicable to BRaD and the Economic Development Director. Member indicated <br />specific areas for emphasis: <br /> <br />./ Strategies for expanding infrastructure (e.g. energy/broadband). <br />./ Less emphasis on retail oriented tasks that were reactive in nature <br />./ Transportation activities such as, inter-connectivity cross town <br />./ Funding more permanent solutions <br />./ Educating business on what is available to them in Louisville <br />./ A business-targeted campaign regarding revenue options that will <br />be brought to voters <br />./ Supporting Business Improvement District and revenue related <br />Activities <br /> <br />3 <br />
