LIBRARY NEWS <br />ADULT & FAMILY PROGRAMS <br />Wednesday, April 21 ❖ 7 PM • "Newfoundland" <br />Enjoy some armchair travel as Charlie Anderson presents his <br />slide show of this fascinating land. <br />Saturday, May 8 • Time TBA <br />Workshop <br />"What is Involved in LandmarkingYour Home" <br />Thursday, May 27 ❖7 PM <br />"Rocky Flats and its Role in Boulder County History" <br />IN- LIBRARY LAPTOP LEARNING <br />P atrons 17 and older may checkout a laptop from ei- <br />ther the Adult or Children's Services information desk <br />for up to three hours using the Library's wireless network. <br />Each laptop is configured with IE 8.0, Firefox 2.0, Adobe <br />Reader 9.0, Power DVD 5.0, Nero SmartStart 2.0, as well as <br />Microsoft Paint and Microsoft Office 2003. <br />KID SPACE <br />Young Writer's Festival <br />Sunday, April 11 ❖ 1 -3:30 PM <br />During National Library Week, the Louisville Public Library <br />will host the Young Writers' Festival in partnership with the <br />Louisville Cultural Council. Local State Farm agent, Wendy <br />Fickbohm, also supports this program. Children in grades <br />3 -8 may participate in creative writing and cartooning classes. <br />Space is limited and pre- registration is required. Register at <br />the Children's Services Desk or call 303.335.4821. <br />Budding Artists of Louisville Art Show <br />April 29 — May 25 <br />Opening Reception Thursday, April 29, 5:30 - PM <br />This show is open to young artists between the ages of 4 and <br />18 who are residents of Louisville, attend Louisville Schools, <br />or are families of Louisville Art Association Members. To <br />request an entry form, please send a self addressed, stamped <br />envelope to the Louisville Public Library, ATTN: Denise <br />Brooks or pick one up at the Children's Services Department. <br />MAKE A SPLASH @ YOUR LIBRARY! <br />I( i . king c off in June, the library's Summer Reading <br />rogram will be all about water this year. Kids will <br />"Make A Splash," while teens "Make Waves." Adults should <br />plan ahead to book passage aboard the S.S. Louisville as <br />we chart our course into international waters. To receive a <br />monthly email notice of upcoming programs, pleae call the <br />Adult Reference Desk at 303.335.4820. <br />A QUESTION FOR <br />TOWN OF SUPERIOR VOTERS <br />S uperior residents will have a chance to vote on Tuesday, <br />April 6th on whether to increase their property taxes to <br />fund continued library services through the Louisville Public <br />Library, as laid out last year in the Intergovernmental Agree- <br />ment between the two towns. <br />I,OVG POIZ VEEI1S <br />Teen Tech Week ❖ March 7 - 12, 2010 <br />The 2010 theme —Learn Create Share @ your library —fos- <br />ters teen creativity and positions the library as a physical and <br />virtual place for safe exploration of the many types of technol- <br />ogy available at libraries. During the month of March, pick <br />up an entry form to join the Online Tech Trek —an internet <br />scavenger hunt contest. Turn in your completed form for the <br />chance to win an exciting prize! <br />May 2010: Young Chautauquans <br />Bring History to Life <br />Beginning in May, the Louisville Young Chautauquans <br />will bring historical characters to life at the Library. Young <br />Chautauquans is an entertaining and educational humanities <br />program in which young scholars spend time researching and <br />then performing as historic characters. This year's cast of char- <br />acters includes Rachel Carson, Nellie Bly, Roald Amundsen, <br />Socrates, and Virginia Hall. Information about performances <br />will be posted in the Library and on the Library's web site. <br />NEW RESOURCES FOR AFTER -HOURS RESEARCH - AVAILABLE 24/7/365 <br />D o you need to do research, find a quick fact or illustration, or need a detailed discussion of a topic and the Library is <br />closed? The 73 new e- reference books cover topics from American Indian Tribes to cultures of China, Asia and Africa, <br />and are available on the Library's web site for use by those with a Library card. <br />For a look at all our e- reference books, go to the Library's web site and select Research a Subject from our Quick Links on <br />the left hand side of the page.
