American Recovery and Reinvestment Act <br />Above Building Code Grant <br />Governor’s Energy Office <br />Submitted by <br />Scope and Strength of the Organization <br />The City of Louisville is a Colorado municipality with approximately 19,000 residents with an <br />incorporated area of 8 square miles. The City, incorporated in 1882, lies in Boulder County <br />roughly six miles east of the City of Boulder and 25 miles northwest of Denver. <br />To date the City has completed the following sustainability initiatives: <br /> Adopted the 2009 International Building Code, January 2010; <br /> Adopted a Sustainable Energy Plan for the City in February 2008; <br /> As a member of the Boulder County Consortium of Cities, the City is a signator of the <br />Boulder County Sustainability Energy Plan; <br /> Implemented a single-hauler trash, recycling, and composting program for all single- <br />family homes in Louisville; <br /> Created a city-wide Sustainability Team; <br /> Initiated composting in City facilities; <br /> Installed energy-efficient lighting in City facilities; <br /> Installed new, energy efficient pool-pak for the Louisville Recreation Center; <br /> Currently implementing a solar project for the City’s two water treatment plants and <br />wastewater plant; <br /> Using of hybrid and low-emission vehicles; <br /> Using biofuels when possible; <br /> Requiring green certified cleaning products and methods in City facilities; <br /> Purchase of recycled/renewable products when possible; <br /> Installed scheduling programs for HVAC and lighting systems in City facilities; <br /> Installed water efficient fixtures in City facilities. <br />Abstract <br />The implementation of a green build program with above building code elements for the City of <br />Louisville will involve three steps: <br />Comprehensive Public Involvement Process <br />1. – Gather information from City Staff, <br />City Boards and Commissions, residents, home builders, and contractors on how to <br />design the best green building program for Louisville. <br />Draft Program Standards and Guidelines <br />2. – Amending the City’s municipal code to <br />include green building requirements and voluntary above building code elements for new <br />construction. <br />Education and Assistance <br />3. – Educating builders and contractors regarding the <br />program, providing technical assistance, and doing public outreach regarding the new <br />program. <br />1 <br /> <br />
