Est 23.
REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION DISTRICT
SET STATEMENT
•
PROPOSED 1977 BUDGET
OVERVIEW
The proposed 1977 budget reflects an adjustment of transit development
efforts in light of the urban Mass Transportation Administration's
recent announcement that federal funding support for eeginesring or
construction of rapid transit in this region would be premature at this
tine, but that expanded financial support for bus improvements and for
the advance acquisition of rapid transit right-of-way, station loca-
tions, and maintenance and storage facilities can be anticipated in
the near term. Funds which had been programmed for the implementation
of rapid transit during 1976 and 1977 are allocated to other programs
so that ad valorem levies can be eliminated on a one-time basis during
1917. Other significant economies are achieved throw the reduction
of salaried staff at the RID central offices, and the termination of
several consulting contracts. Emphasis is placed on continued improve-
ments in the productivity of the transit system through the moderniza-
tion of equipment and facilities, the installation of advanced maintenance
end inventory control systems, and the application of transportation .
systems management techniques. The commitment of the region to the
progressive development of high quality transit is maintained through
six corridor design projects and through the advance acquisition of
right-of-way.
1976 PROGRAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS
During 1976, the Regional Transportation District successfully accom-
plished its major program objectives involving service improvements,
facilities construction, agency management, and the preparation and
• n. , f. . -y .. .. ,:.. :: : .• ti ••w a to wall i # .
