Fsbrnary 114 19?$
Dear Sirs.
As the now owner of Fantasyland, the daycare center and presohool at 932 Main M.
1 as greatly Voncerred about this parting limitations imposed on the oenteres
clientele. It is eery sonderstandi that these limitations were imposed for the
prot.ation of the children at the center, but I aitasrely believe the lull scope
of the problems inrolvsd with the alternative parking. ie. the alloy, were not
fully discussed or foreseeable at that tins.
Since I assumed ownership in January of this year I have observed several very
dangerous problems concerning the use of the alley entrasoce. It is easy objective
to oamplete the safety picture involved with the parking and propose what I believe
to be a fair and safe alternative to the present situation.
First, I fool that it is unfair that I an the only legitimate business with Vain
Street frontage that is not allowed to.let nyr clientele park there. Surly
any business person would feel slighted havibg- to tell their clientele to park
on the side street or in the alley and comae in the beck door. Theme is not
enough rocs in the alley for proper parking of more than one or two cars, hence
my clientele run the risk of getting tickets for blocking the alley. Also, I
am sure that my neighbor does not appreciate the cars that get parked in his
driveway.by people servicing the center.
Since zany of wp clients are young mothers, besides their preschooler, they also
have infants and toddlers to contend with. Several of this have expressed their
desire to leave their young ones belted in their car seats while they briarg
their preschooler inside but are hesitant to do so if they have to park as far
away, as the side street. It is a real hassle for thee to carry and hold onto
two or three small children while they sake their way through the alley and back
yard. Another problem is with the parents who send their children in a carpool, .
because one adult has to watch two or three preschoolers in the heavy traffic
situation in the alley during drop off and pink up tiaus, which is less than
safe by any standards.
Although it does not snow very often in Louisville, the snow in the alley has
been an erxtreaae problem. Since there is no mans of snow removal provided by the
city and the walkway to the rear entrance lies-on the north side of the garage in
the rear, we have to deal with toe for weeks at a time. I do my share of shovslinr
and salting but there is no-adequate weans for keeping this area safe. On
several occasions I have had to console a child who has fallen on the ice in'the
alley aril been hurt, and even some Of the parents have lost their balance and
slipped and fn to . Corsidaring that some or the ladies ars expecting babies,
I hate to think what will happen if one of thew should fall and miscarry due to
these conditions.
When finally the ice and snow colt away we are faced with another now problem,
the two to three inches of mud covering the entire side of the alley and walkway.
It is hard enough for an adult to walk through and keep clean, but as vs all know,
children are drawn to mud like a duck to water and that only increases the
hassles involved with the already terrible situation. There are stones that fords
a sidewalk along the back that should serve as a type of sidewalk, but the rand
oosss over them despite attempt to keep thane cleaned off.
