Sines several of sy olierrts are working parents, I feel that some consideration
should be given to t el Line in dropping offend picking up their child. Raving
to drim around back and walk the extra distance is really imposing on that time.
If allayed to use the Main Street entrance and perking, they oould sari Sto10
minutes each time they caws to the muter. Some of these parents also are
forced to drop their child oft at 700 Wand pick them vat 6t00 PK and during
the winter months it is still dark at these times creating nmr and even mere
hazardous situations in the alley. There is no mans of light in the alley and
when it has snowed or is snowing the d+.'. .. there is very slick and icy.
From the information I have been able to gather, the win objective in preventing
the use of the Main Street entrance vas' to protect the children from the traffic
on Main Streit during peak hours. I agree that traffic could be a problem for
children but not at the age level that I deal with at the center. It is a school
policy that goes without exception, that an adult must walk the ohild into the
school, help thee with their outside wrens. and sigh them in on our daily
.attendance sheet. 3Wheni•1t.is-tics for .the children to'go=home, -the:same
procedure ie'isi'eftect.":••An adult 'must come inside to help the child with 'their
outside wraps, sign them out on the same attendance sheet and walk them to their
cars. In the case of carpoolers, the parent driving is responsible for the
children in their car and they must follow the same procedure for all the
children they transport.
(I an more than willing to put a fence around the front yard that would meat with
city approval as a precautionary measure to insure that no c d could freely
walk out of the door towards the street, although there is no time during the day
that.a child would be unsupervised long enough to attempt to do so. I would also
be willing to put a. gate on the front pmmx- 4 fag nr )id wad proof so
as to prevent any child from ever being able to leave the building by thee self.
As it stands now, myself and the other teacher at the center use the Main Street
parking for our own cars armd they take up these spaces all day. If the parents
could use the fain Street parking then the staff would be able to use the littia
space in the rear of the building. Since the parents are only here for 5 to 10
minutes at a time, the parking turnover for those spices would be much greater.
Since the preschool runs on three hour classes there is only a parking problem
at 9010 AK , 12:00 noon, 100 P4, and 4,00 PM. The rest of the day is slow with
the drop offs being spaced out over the afternoon. The parking places in front
would than be free for clients of other businesses in the area to utilise..
The last major problems is the effect of the trash that the children aryl parents
'save to deal with daily. It is not so pleasant to see beer cans, and other trash
scattered all over when you are trying to set good examples and policies for
the youngsters to .low. I have had several complaints from parents who have
also been caught its the alley by the garbage truck or delivery trucks from the
neighboring businesses.waking their already horrible experience even worse.
In lieu of all the problems and situations mentioned above, shy proposal is that
Fanttesyland be allowed to use the Main Street parkinz and entrance for the parents
and their children. I also propose that 15 minute parking signs be place in
front of the property to insure that the spaces will be free for not only my
clients but those of other businesses near by.
