,.
E. RESERVE OFFICERS. As of this date, the Reserve
Officer Program is hereby suspended. Do not allow any reserve
officer to accompany you on patrol. City officials or citizens
will be allowed to accompany you on patrol with specific permission
from the Chief only.
E. WRITTEN EVALUATIONS. All officers and staff will
receive a written evaluation of their job performance on a semi-
annual basis. All such evaluations will become a part of that
person's p•rsoanwi tile.
G. 077-DOT! EMPLOYMENT. No officer shall be employed
in security or police related work in addition to their position
with the City.
II. DEGREE OF PHYSICAL FORCE ALLOWED IN MAXING ARREST:
In making an arrest you are allowed to use such force
as may be necessary to protect yourself or others. Of course,
more force may be exercised or allowed in arresting a felon. It
is not proper to injure a party in making a misdemeanor arrest or
traffic stop unless you are defending yourself or others. The
basic rule is to use only the minimal amount of force as is
necessary to make the arrest. Excessive force subjects you and
the City to possible liability.
If you are attempting to make a traffic stop and the
suspect attempts to flee at high speeds, the officer involved
should immediately radio for assistance. An officer shall not
continue such a high speed chase for a traffic violation into
another City.
III . RESPONSE OUTSIDE OF CITY WHILE ON DUTY:
An officer shall respond to an accident or situation
outside of the City and in the County at the request of the dis-
patcher. Upon the arrival of the department or officer having
jurisdiction (sheriff, state patrol) , you should ir;r•.zediately
return to the City.
A. Specific state statutes control mutual aid
for police officers. A request by the dispatcher
to respond to Lafayette is not valid unless the re-
quest comes directly from the Chief in Lafuycttc.
Likewise, you must not request I,afayettr or Sheriff
assistance without having sped ; tc pc'rmiszlon from
the Chief.
-2-
