MEMORANDUM
TO: Leon Wurl, City Administrator '
PROM: David Stahl, Director •
Department of Parks and Recreatio
DATE: Kay 29, 1979 tg
RE: Creation of Historical Commission
As you are aware the City of Louisville does not. have
an areas) or individual structure(s) that are designated as
having historical significance with the National Register.
Nor does the City have one building that could house a
museum that could permanently display items of local interest
and of historical significance from the Citys past 101 years
of existence.
Preliminary inquiries to the Colorado Historical
Society indicate if the City Council was interested in
preserving certain areas or structures that the first step
would be to create a City appointed Historical Commission.
This commission would be charged with the initial
responsibility of surveying the Community and recommending
areas to the State and National Register that they feel
should be registered as areas of historical significance.
After an area(s) or structure(s) has been designated
the owner may then be eligible for grants in order to either
preserve or restore the area(s) or structure(s) .
The second area of responsibility would be the acquisi-
tion of a building that could house the "Louisville Museum"
and subsequently the acquisition of items to be displayed
either permanently or those items that are on tour.
It the council should concure with my opinionhat a
L
Historical Commission is needed to begin preserving Louisville's'
heritage the attached resolution would establish the Commission
and work could begin this summer.
L.,
