Z - GU ERtiOK LA IM Explained to Council that Governor Laum's
BLUE RIBBON COMMITTEE Blue Ribbon Committee and the Dept. of
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Energy's long range utilization study
which is going on at the Rocky Flats
facility Was orginally instituted in 1979
by Governor Lamm and Congressman Tim Wirth,
because of concerns of citizens in the vicinity.
Initially a Lamm-Wirth Task Force was ap-
pointed and made recommendations to the
Governor, Congressman Wirth and the State
of Colorado. One of the recommendations
made was that they pursue the phasing out of
the existing operation as an alternative
and what impact that would be. The Dept.
of Energy was asked to make a long term
utilization study stating what impact
' it would have on nearby communities,
to address safety and risk questions,
what social and economic impacts there
might be if the Rocky Flats facility were
moved, and what the costs of these various
alternatives are, When DOE agreed to make
the study there was a uestion if DOE was
doing a study of itself would they cone up with
a credible objective study. Because of
this concern the Blue Ribbon Citizens Com-
mittee was created. (Each member of council
and staff were presented with a brochure
stating the names of persons on the Committee) .
• ..
•
•
