Racy Carruthers, 941 Garfield Ave., read a latter
from a resident usable to attend the meeting
asking Council to reject the ML coming citing
increased traffic as a major concern. Carruthers
also asked Council to voasider Boning with lower
density.
1111 Seals, 249 Spruce It., read a letter from
John and Sharon N nsel of 109 West It. who were
unable to attend this sleeting asked Council to
consider Its zoning. Seals concurred with these
coments.
Jlohr pointed out that Planning Commission clearly
stated that this property is a transition sit.
from RL to an RR area and the compromise agreed
upon to sone this property Its sews very
appropriate to Mohr and will support an Its toning
recommended by the Planning Commission.
Anderson also agreed with the Rs 'toning stating
that it will "give it what it will used to be
successful for the entire infill process.'
Sackett is also in favor of the RR zoning and
referenced petitions stating that in many cases
people come to your door asking to have you sign a
petition. •There are certain reasons why we arm
allowed to vote by secret ballot and I think
sometimes petitions give the impression that a lot
of people are in favor of one thing or another
when they may not be if they had the opportunity
to vote by secret ballot. There is a lot of peer
pressure to sign that (petition) if for no other
reason but to get that person off your doorstep.
I think the brat way people have to voice their
opinion is to be here to talk, writ. letters or
wake phone calls to your councilperson. Those are
the most effective ways. I don't feel good about
petitions although I do happen to be in favor of
the/ petition.*
Mohr stated that there is no compelling reason for
Council to go against the desires of the neighbor-
hood as occasionally the case may be wherein the
best interest of the City as a whole must be
considered and there have been tines when that has
happened. aowever, in this case there is no
compelling reason to go against that.
Mayor Taman closed that public bearing and asked
for a motion.
Carnival moved that Ordinance 989, be amended to
read R= Zoning. Mohr saccaded. Sy Roll Call vote
I4
