•
•
a recommendation for financing are all issues being
explored. At this point, the preferred alignment
seems to be along the south right-of-way of existing
Highway 36. The recommended propulsion for this is
electric, but that it also be capable of switching
to diesel automatically. Someone off the system
could then utilise the system. The legislation
gives authority for different methods of financing
including taxing businesses within one mile of the
corridor, a head tax imposed for all employees in
the area, and a tax based upon the square footage of
either retail or commercial. Currently the City of
Louisville is .tot directly impacted as the corridor
ends at Broomfield and the taxing district would
potentially extend out one mile past that. However,
whatever is decided now, both in terms of the type
of system and in terms of financing, would obviously
affect us at some point. Public hearings will take
place in September. Wanush will continue to update
Council.
PUBLIC COMMENTS None.
COUNCIL COMMENTS AND COMMITTEE
REPORTS Szymanski reminded everyone that there will be the
annual softball game between the City of Lafayette
and the City of Louisville. The game is in Louis-
ville this year on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. at Miner's
Field. Szymanski encouraged everyone to cheer our
team on.
Carnival stated that the Joint Rec Task Force met
last week and looked at two pieces of property that
could be purchased to locate a combined recreation
center. Those two pieces of property were the
LaStoke Property and the Pow Wow Grounds. The owner
of the Pour Wow grounds, Herm Schempp, offered some
free acres for consideration for building a center
on that site. A minimum of 5 acres was determined
as the need for a center. Mr. Schempp was not sure
that he would be able to provide the full 5 acres
free of charge. His offer was more in the 2-3 acre
range. Costs are being developed to determined the
cost of building a center on the Pow Wow Grounds
assuming that 5 acres could be obtained. Safe
access to this site must be factored into the cost
of the facility. A cost comparison was asked of the
City's Community Services Director, Larry Lillo,
comparing a joint facility versus building a
facility for Louisville. Once these figures are
ready, a meeting will be set.
EXECUTIVE SESSION Mayor Fauson moved that the meeting recess to an
Executive Session at 9:00 p.m. regarding matters of
attorney client negotiations.
. 9
