The Colorado <br /> Municipal League has requested that Council <br /> consider this Resolution in opposition to <br /> Amendment 6. <br /> Sackett stated that he is opposed to Amendment 6. <br /> Sackett stated that representatives for whoa the <br /> people vote for spend a great deal of time "' <br /> examining the issues and that 1s what <br /> representative government is all about. Sackett <br /> stated that not everyone is willing to study the <br /> issues in-depth and that is why the people elect <br /> public officials. Anytime the public doesn't like <br /> the decisions of the public officials, they can <br /> vote they out, appropriately so. Sackett asked if <br /> Council has taken a formal position in the past re <br /> issues such as this. Mayor Fauson stated that <br /> Council has taken a position on other issues <br /> concerning municipal government. <br /> Mayor Fauson stated that he opposes Amendment 6 as <br /> it dictates a 2/3 majority vote giving the 1/3 <br /> minority vote control. Mayor Fauson stated that a <br /> simple majority vow is often difficult on any <br /> issue and trying to obtain a 2/3 majority vote <br /> would leave the minority vote in control . Mayor <br /> Fauson stated that many needed and desired <br /> projects may never become a reality with passage <br /> of this Amendment . <br /> Mohr moved and Mayor Fauson second to adopt <br /> Resolution *51, Series 1988. By Roll Call Vote, <br /> Resolution *51, Series 1988 was adopted 7-0. <br /> 8 <br />
