...,

of the Chamber and even though some members choose
to attach me directly, I'm still willing to let
them act in an advisory capacity. I think that is
a good idea.

Sackett: The Commission heard from a citizen from
Louisville that is wanting to pick up on the
intent of Mr. Howard's proposal that he will
present later this evening, make some
modifications and take this through the process.
The goal is to avoid the situation where we didn't
have a process clearly established and there were
elements to Mr. Howards proposal that weren't
acceptable to many business people in town.

Sackett went through a proposal that had come through the Chamber
at this time.

The idea that comes about is to take the idea of
promoting people buying in Louisville. Anyone who
spends a certain amount of money in any store or
business will be given a ticket. These tickets
will be collected for a period of a month, at the
end of the month a drawing will be held in the
Chamber office, and a winner will be selected.
The winner would receive a certain amount in the
form of a gift certificate that would be
redeemable at any of the businesses that are
Chamber members during the following month. This
program could be designed for several months or
only during the slow seasons. It is basically
similar to Mr. Howard's idea. I am suggesting
that we set up a process and that this citizen be
directed to go through that process before it
comes before City Council.

Davidson: We have this commission set up of elected
officials and some Chamber members. If Homart gets
an idea to recruit a hotel and wants the city's
cooperation, do they have to run that through the
Chamber?

Sackett: The two reasons that you would go through this
process is either you want the endorsement of the
city or you want money from the city.

Davidson: For someone like myself to have to go through this
process seems like a good idea, but for a major
land owner to have to go through this I don't see
that.

Sackett: The idea is for the person who generally is not a
professional in Economic Development.
