.. .
direction. If people voted yes or no on either one of
these wordings, even with the suggested changes, I still
don't know what that means. I think, John, what you
were trying to do is get some kind of reference from the
people of Louisville on a specific issue. For instance if
you ask, do you support a beltway, well, what is a
beltway? A beltway that runs down the middle of Main
Street, one that runs north of Louisville by five miles.
Do you support the concept of a beltway, well, that is
not the necessarily the same as W-470. If you really
want to know if people support W-470 or not, why don't
we just ask that? Or if you want to know if people
support the Parkway, why don't we just ask that. Then
I would know that yes, they support W-470 because its'
route is defined or no, they don't. In the case of the
Parkway I would know yes, they support the Parkway or
no, they don't. This question is so ambiguous, "do you
support a road that links Louisville to the airport?"
Well, who wouldn't.
Sackett: It is my impression based on what I have heard that
there are a lot of people who wouldn't support that.
Davidson: A road to the airport?
Sackett: Yes.
Davidson: US 36 does. That is not a direct route, either is W-470.
Sackett: If you want to try to defeat the idea of asking the voters
their opinion about W-470 just so you don't have to
deal with their opinions...I think their opinions maybe
the same as yours, so I am really surprised about that,
but then we don't have to do this. First of all, it was
your idea to talk about asking the voters whether or not
they want to be a part of the authority and I'm saying
fine let's do that, but lets try to deal with these other
two issues.
Davidson: I don't have any objection to that, John, but I think you
need to define it so when they vote we know what they
said. I have no objections against asking the people do
you want W-470, yes or no. I certainly have no
objections of asking do you want the Parkway, yes or
29
