It has served as the home for
only three families since its construction. The home was eventually owned by Henry
"Ricco" Zarini, who was born in the Town of Marshall in 1890. Ricco was the son of
Joseph Zarini Sr., who moved to Louisville in September 1890, shortly after Ricco was
born in Marshal. When Joseph purchased 824 Lafarge Avenue in 1890, he was
believed to be the first Italian to purchase a home in Louisville. In fact at that time,
Lafarge Avenue had the most concentration of Italian families than the Little Italy
neighborhood.

ARCHITECTURAL INTEGRITY:
The house was built in 1909 and was originally a square residence measuring 28'x28'.
A 14'x19' addition was added to the rear of the building in 1912. The garage appears to
have been built prior to 1978 when the building was last appraised.

The gable-on-hipped roof, stick built home has had few alterations over the years and
retains a high degree of architectural integrity. The current owner did modify the
existing porch to restore the original porch design to re-establish the wooden posts and
balusters. Other than the restoration of the porch, there have been no other additions

1
