Historic Preservation Commission <br />Meeting Minutes <br />May 17, 2010 <br />Page 2 of 6 <br /> <br />Public Comments on Items Not on the Agenda <br />Jean Morgan, 1131 Spruce Street, stated her appreciation to the Commission for <br />all the work they have done to save the Hecla Casino Building. <br /> <br />Morgan added Mrs. Downer’s Cabins (Lee Street) are again having roof difficulty <br />with great deterioration of the roof on the north cabin in particular. She noted the <br />fence around Mrs. Downer’s House was recently removed. The fence posts were <br />made from old mining materials should be saved. She asked the Commission to <br />consider writing a letter to the owner to ask for those materials to be donated to <br />the City should any additional fencing be removed. <br /> <br />Koertje stated they could add the request to the June meeting agenda. <br /> <br />Introduction – Troy Russ, Director of Planning and Building Safety <br /> <br />Troy Russ introduced himself as the new Director for Planning and Building <br />Safety. He noted he has a background in architecture and environmental design. <br />He added he understands historic districts and has lived in them before. He <br />stated the planning staff is here to support the HPC and is happy to be working <br />with the Commission. <br /> <br />Koertje thanked Russ and welcomed him to the City. <br /> <br />Update/Discussion/Action – Landmarking Workshop Recap <br /> <br />Koertje stated the workshop went well and there were about 60 people in <br />attendance. He noted the presentations went well and those in attendance had <br />good questions. <br /> <br />Muckle stated Bridget Bacon told her since the presentation, three people had <br />made appointments with her to research their homes. <br /> <br />Koertje noted some follow up was needed to update the HPC flyers with new <br />information. <br /> <br />Koertje stated the next project related to this would be to look at incentives for <br />commercial buildings. Poppitz agreed to take the lead on this project with an <br />update at the June meeting. <br /> <br />Update/Discussion/Action – Plaques <br /> <br />Koertje noted the Commission approved the design in 2008 and asked what the <br />next steps are. <br /> <br />Muth noted staff needs to get bids on the plaques and the project can go from <br />there. She added Sean McCartney included a memo in the meeting packet <br /> <br />
