ÐßÎÕÍ ú ÎÛÝÎÛßÌ×ÑÒ
Memorandum
To:Horticulture & Forestry Advisory Board
From:
Kathy Kron, Project Manager
Date:Sept. 2, 2010
Re:Heritage Park Renovation Project
The City of Louisville has implemented a park renovation program which utilizes Colorado Lottery funds
to upgrade Louisville’s most highly utilized parks and facilities.
2010 funding is earmarked for upgrades to Heritage Park. Improvements are focused on the plaza,
stairs, retaining walls and landscaping. Improvements to the ballfield, playground, parking lot and
restroom are planned through alternative funding sources.
We need HFAB’s input on the preliminary landscape plan. The intent of the landscape renovation is to
keep what’s doing well (mainly the overstory trees), remove the overgrown shrub layertoimprove
visibility throughout the plaza and add color and interest to the landscape. The Parks and Recreation
Department has guided the consultant to utilize low maintenance, hardy plant material in a simple, and
cohesive landscape design. These types of renovation projects present a unique challenge in marrying
the old with the new. The irrigation system will also be renovated and drip irrigation will be resurrected
in the landscape beds.
The project is scheduled to begin construction this fall, but will likely have a split schedule with the
landscape installation in the spring of 2011.
Thank you for your thoughts and input.
