ORDINANCE NO. 894 Series 1986 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE l5 OF THE LOUISVILLE MUNICIPAL CODE CONCERNING ADOPTION OF THE 1985 EDITION OF THE UNIFORM FIRE CODE, SETTING FORTH CERTAIN STANDARDS RELATED TO FIRE PROTECTION AND AMENDING THE SAFETY CODE CONCERNING ELEVATORS AND ESCALATORS TO THE 1984 EDITION. The following amendments were adopted on second and final reading with respect to Ordinance No. 894: Section l. Sections 15.12.010, 15.12.020, l5.l2.030, 15.12.040, l5.l2.050 of the Louisville Municipal Code are hereby repealed. 15.12.020 Section 2.10l AMENDED - ADMINISTRATION AND ENFORCEMENT. Section 2.101 of the Uniform Fire Code is amended to read as follows: Section 2.101 - The City Administrator shall be responsible for administration and enforcement of this code. l5.12.060 FIRE LANE REQUIREMENTS. ( A ) Multi-family housing, buildings over l50 feet in length, or buildings over 30 feet in width, must be provided with ready access on legal fire lanes to the rear of such buildings. ( B ) Buildings 35 feet or greater in height must be provided with ready access on legal, unobstructed fire lanes to at least two sides of the building from which rescue can be made. ( C ) Dead end streets over 150 feet long shall have cul-de- sacs providing an unobstructed turning radius of no less than 50 feet, "T" turns providing an unobstructed turning radius of no less than 30 feet, or other configurations as may be approved by the City. No street shall exceed 500 feet in length without providing an alternate fire lane access nor shall any street exceed 300 feet in length for multi-family, industrial or commercial development. 15.12.070 FIRE LANE SPECIFICATIONS. ( A ) Fire lanes shall be clearly marked with an approved sign and kept clear of obstructions. ( B ) Fire lanes shall be at least twenty feet wide at buildings and no less than l6 feet wide at all other locations. ( C ) The center of fire lanes at buildings shall be no more than 30 feet not less than 20 feet from the building, and all such lanes shall have an unobstructed outside turning radius of no less than 50 feet and an inside turning radious of no less than 30 feet. ( D ) There shall be no overhead obstructions lower than 15 feet on fire lanes or side obstructions closer than five feet from the outer edges of fire lanes. ( E ) Fire lanes shall be of suitable construction to withstand the weight of fire apparatus and must be able to hold l5 tons for a single family residence and 25 tons for multi-family, commercial and industrial needs.
