Recreation Advisory Board
Minutes
November 27, 2023
Kathy reported that the recent cold weather has brought people to the
Rec Center in droves. The pool has been very busy. The Lafayette pool
should open on Tuesday, which will help. There was a huge turnout for
the Senior Center Thanksgiving dinner, with almost 200 people.
Participants enjoyed the first buffet celebration since COVID.
Kathy said that repairs are under control at the Rec Center. Repairs will
include replacing some exterior panels on the building and working on
the tile floor in the family changing area.
Kathy reported that she is still waiting for information about decisions
related to the sustainability report. RAB members expressed a desire to
learn about proposals before they are implemented, so that feedback
can be provided before actions are taken.
Kathy presented an email from Adam Blackmore.
• The sales and use tax to fund Open Space & Parks operations handily
passed.
Adam listed 2024 projects in the budget adopted by City Council. These
include: restoration of the Mission Green tennis court, upgrading field
lighting at the Louisville Sports Complex, designing and connecting a
cart path along hole 13 at CCGC, remediation of the walking/jogging
track at the Rec Center, HVAC replacement at the Rec Center, and
upgrades to the short game area and practice putting green at CCGC.
Dick would like to see more information about the proposed upgrades for
the golf course.
Gene would like to confirm that the rebuild of the east tennis courts at
Centennial Park is still in the plans. Kathy will check on this.
Kathy presented an email from David Baril.
• David wrote that play at CCGC through November 19 has been above
average.
He wrote about the success of a combination Member Appreciation early
season pass sale, chili luncheon and golf shop sale.
He reported that there is a rumor that a new clubhouse will be built, and
he realized that many players are unaware of the consultants' report and
the support of the RAB for building a new clubhouse. RAB members
suggested that Ginger address this issue, so that players are informed
about the status of a potential new clubhouse. Support from the golfing
community may help to provide momentum for the project.
Kathy reported that various groups are requesting year-round access to ball
fields. This would require year-round access to bathroom facilities and
consideration of artificial turf.
Board Updates
