Sustainability Advisory Board
Minutes
January 17, 2024
Public Comments —
There were no public comments.
Staff Update —
Kayla explained the process for and purpose of staff updates at Board meetings.
She highlighted the Sustainability Division's upcoming appearances at City
Council meetings in March, notably the presentation of the Community
Decarbonization Plan the night before the Board's March meeting. Tiffany asked
for clarification on the Division's intention not to ask for adoption of the
Community Decarbonization Plan but to ask for updates of the City's climate
action goals. Kayla explained that updates of these goals would likely be more
impactful than adoption by resolution of the Community Decarbonization Plan.
John asked for further information on the study of Louisville's commercial
buildings that students from CU-Anschutz will conduct this spring. Kayla
explained that the idea came from the Community Decarbonization Stakeholder
Group. The students will use Boulder County data to explore the ages of
buildings and their likely HVAC equipment replacement schedules so that the
City can target its outreach, particularly to support the City's collaboration with
PACE this year. The students will attempt to research all commercial buildings in
Louisville.
Kevin inquired about the building energy code amendments that City Council will
soon consider. Kayla explained that the codes recently adopted by the City
require a few administrative changes, particularly regarding bringing equipment
replacement requirements in line with legal standards.
Todd clarified how the Board typically approaches the staff updates at its
meetings: Board members read the updates beforehand, and discussion at the
meeting is limited to Board member's questions.
