A request to consider an
ordinance to amend Chapter 17 of the Louisville Municipal Code and the Downtown
Design Handbook to increase the maximum building height limitation in the downtown
commercial district. (Continued from December 15, 2005, January 12, 2006 and
February 9, 2006.)
. Applicant: City of Louisville
. Case Manager: Paul Wood, Planning Director

Public Notice Certification:
Posted in City Hall, the Louisville Public Library, the Recreation Center and the Courts and
Police Department Building on February 17 in advance of the March 9,2006 public hearing.
There was no mailing involved with this ordinance amendment.

Conflict ofInterest and Disclosure: None heard.

Staff Report of Facts and Issues:
Wood provided the following summary points:
. The current building height limit for the downtown district is 29 feet and was approved
by City Council as Ordinance No. 1287, Series 1998.
. The height was inclusive of all parapet or rooftop mechanical screens or any other
architectural element.
. Based on the direction of the Planning Commission during previous hearings for the
building height limitation staff recommendations include the following:
A. The maximum building height for the downtown district should be amended to
45' for the commercial core area as defined in the Design Handbook for
Downtown Louisville.
1. This recommendation is based upon the manner in which it would be
implemented by the Framework Plan and the Design Handbook for
Downtown Louisville.
11. Building height maximum in the Framework Plan is not a use by right.
