25 March, 2004
Mayor Charles Sisk
749 Main Street
Louisville, CO 80027
Dear Mayor Sisk,
RECEByELD
MAR 2 5 2004
CITY OF LOUISVILLE
CITY MANAGER
I am writing to express my interest in the vacancy within the Louisville Housing Authority.
Affordable housing is a cause that I have become closely invested in and connected to
during the past several years, both professionally and personally. I am a designer at Barrett
Studio Architects in Boulder and have had the opportunity to work on several residential and
mixed -use developments for 3 1/2 years. Affordable housing has played a role in most of
them. I have worked closely with private developers and Boulder Housing Partners to
understand and define the role that affordable housing plays within the city fabric as well as
within the individual neighborhood.
Two years ago I began looking to buy my first home. After determining that purchasing a
home at market value would not be financially feasible (nor would being able to make the
necessary mortgage payments), I spoke with the city of Boulder about applying to the
affordable housing program. I was surprised to discover that I qualified. It was at that point
that the actual scope of the need for affordable housing in Colorado registered for me. I had
been working for years on integrating affordable housing within communities, but I was
unaware of the amount of people that it has the ability to impact.
After participating in a few lotteries, I finally owned my first home: a loft in North Boulder. As
a homeowner, I realized the importance that quality and community has in the success of
affordable housing. I also understood the continuous roll that the city plays in the lives of
those who live in affordable housing, both homeowners and renters. Although I have now
sold my home and purchased a house in Louisville, I maintain a strong interest and
dedication to the development and success of the affordable housing program. I would be
grateful for the opportunity to become a member of the Louisville Housing Authority.
Thank you for your consideration.
Best regards,
Callan Childs
701 GARFIELD AVENUE
LOUISVILLE, CO 80027
3 (H), 3 (W), 720.839.6240 (M)
