In 2003, the Authority continued to review and handle liquor code violations on an <br />individual basis as incidents occurred. The Authority continues to encourage license <br />holders to appear before the Authority to discuss questions and concerns of theirs or <br />the Authority and what can be done to avoid potential problems. Several incident <br />reports from the Police Department resulted in letters being sent as reminders as well <br />as commending establishments for following rules. <br />One Renewal Hearing was held in March regarding sales tax issues. The owner of <br />Little Tokyo was given time to pay and since there was compliance, the renewal was <br />granted. Issues concerning payment of both sales tax and license renewal fees arose <br />later and the restaurant closed. <br />The Authority issued a total of two Show Cause Orders in 2003. The Show Cause <br />Orders resulted in the following action: <br />1. A hearing was held by the Authority on the Tavern License held by Henry's Bar & <br />Grill for selling /serving a visibly intoxicated person. The Authority ordered a three - <br />day suspension with one day served and two days held in abeyance or a fine in lieu <br />of suspension. The one -day suspension was served. <br />2. Another hearing was held by the Authority on the Tavern License held by Henry's <br />Bar & Grill involving an altercation that occurred outside the bar. This hearing <br />resulted in the Authority ordering a seven day suspension with two days served and <br />five days held in abeyance for one year. <br />Outside counsel was necessary to represent the City's interest in Show Cause <br />hearings. Attorney Mark Shapiro represented the Authority in both Show Cause <br />hearings.. <br />Approved by the.
