COUNCIL COMMUNICATION TO: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL FROM: MALCOLM FLEMING, CITY MANAGER DATE: SEPTEMBER 14, 2010 SUBJECT: PLANNING COMMISSION 2010 – 2011 WORK PLAN ORIGINATING DEPARTMENT: Planning and Building Safety Department SUMMARY: This Study Session is intended to generate a conversation between the Planning Commission and City Council regarding 2010-2011 work plan. The proposed 2010-2011 work plan was endorsed by the Planning Commission at their regular meeting on July 8, 2010. Downtown Parking & Pedestrian Action Plan Description:The goal of this effort is to develop a downtown parking and pedestrian action plan that maximizes the utilization of both on-street and off-street, public and private parking resources, using both short and long term solutions focused on creating a vibrant, walkable, and economically vital Downtown Louisville. Status: Parking Ordinance Adopted August 2010 Supporting Action Plan Started July 2010 Walking Audit was Conducted – August 2010 Schedule: Completion - October, 2010 Green Building Program Description:The goal of this effort is to provide input to City Council for the emerging Louisville Green Point Building Program in consideration to community design and development as well as development cost impacts and consistency to the Revised Louisville Comprehensive Plan. This effort would include working collaboratively with the Louisville Sustainability Advisory Board. Develop Green Building Program standards for City Council consideration. Three part scope of work drafted utilizing outside professional services to conduct o community – stakeholder input. Request funding from Governors Energy Office to facilitate program. o Conduct public hearing process. o Provide follow up education and technical assistance. o Status: Grant application submitted June 2010 / Grant denied August 2010.
