COUNCIL COMMUNICATION <br />TO: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: MALCOLM FLEMING <br /> CITY MANAGER <br />DATE: OCTOBER 18, 2010 <br />SUBJECT: SALES TAX REPORT FOR THE MONTH ENDED AUGUST 31, 2010 <br />ORIGINATING <br /> DEPARTMENT: CITY MANAGER’S OFFICE <br />SUMMARY: <br />Attached are the revenue reports for sales tax, lodging tax, auto use tax and building <br />use tax for the month ending August 31, 2010. <br />City sales tax revenue for the month of August ended down 4.7% to August 2009 and is <br />currently 2.4% below 2009 revenues YTD. Sales tax revenue is currently 8.6% above <br />budget estimates YTD. <br />The top 50 vendors ended the month of August up 5.9% over August 2009 and are <br />currently 5.99% above 2009 revenues YTD. <br />Attached are new charts designed to analyze restaurant revenue in the City. The first <br />set of graphs indicates the historical trend for Louisville restaurants (in total and by <br />each area) over a six year period. Please note that South Boulder Road revenues have <br />been combined with Highway 42 North revenues to ensure revenue confidentiality. The <br />second set of graphs illustrates revenue for the same areas by month for 2010. <br />YTD increases continue in all categories this month including Hotels (2.9%), General <br />Merchandise (5.94%), Grocery (9.45%), Home Improvement (1.66%), Restaurants (4.59%), <br />and Telecom/Utilities (8.19%). <br />Lodging tax revenue for August 2010 was up 9.6% compared to August 2009 and is <br />currently 1.7% below 2009 revenue YTD. Lodging tax is 3.4% above budget estimates <br />YTD. <br />Auto use tax for August 2010 increased 14.3% from August 2009 and is 7.5% above 2009 <br />YTD and 16.5% above budget estimates YTD. <br />Building use tax revenue YTD for 2010 is 28.5% above 2009 and is currently 48% above <br />budget estimates. <br />SUBJECT AGENDA ITEM <br />AUGUST 2010 SALES TAX REPORT <br />
