Historic Preservation Commission <br />Meeting Minutes <br />September 20, 2010 <br />Page 4 of 11 <br /> <br />Lewis stated she agreed with Stewart. <br />Muckle stated the carport should be included in the landmark application. <br />Koertje agreed with the other commissioners. <br />Koertje asked for a motion. <br />Lewis made a motion to approve the application as written. <br /> <br />Stewart seconded the motion. The motion carried 5 – 0. <br />Public Hearing – Demolition – 401 County Road <br />Koertje opened public hearing. <br />McCartney presented the staff report and PowerPoint presentation. He stated the <br />applicant, Joe Pflug, is requesting to demolish the existing single car garage and the <br />chicken coop. <br />Joe Pflug, the applicant, spoke regarding his request. He stated he did not know if the <br />structure was ever used as a chicken coop. <br />Stewart asked Pflug if he had any existing on-site parking. <br />Pflug answered no. <br />Public Comments <br />Jean Morgan stated the applicant should be encouraged to work with the HPC to figure <br />out alternatives to demolition. Once the structure is gone it is gone forever. <br />Barb Hessen, next door neighbor, addressed the commission. She stated her family <br />has lived next door since 1940. She continued by stating once the old buildings are <br />removed, there is no more Old Town. <br />Commission Questions and Comments <br />Stewart stated out building do contribute to Old Town and he is sympathetic about the <br />need to keep out buildings. He continued to state the structure may or may not be <br />landmarkable and he believes the use of the property is limited. <br />Lewis stated she was in favor of releasing the permit. She continued to state it was <br />hard to determine the age of the structure and it did not appear to be structurally sound. <br />Muckle asked the Commissioners if the structure could be re-used, maybe as a storage <br />shed. <br />Koertje stated he agreed with the public comments but also believes the property <br />should be usable. He also stated the criteria does not support landmarking of these <br />structures. <br />Tofte stated she agreed with the other commissioners. <br /> <br />
